AUdition & Monologue Workshops
On January 27, 2024 Magic Theatre’s Education Program Making Magic: Arts and the Community will present Making Magic: A Masterclass, featuring San Francisco Bay Area theatre’s legends and local artists who have made indelible impact in the community.
Making Magic: A Masterclass is a new initiative within Magic Theatre’s Education geared to provide tools, resources, and techniques to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) who identify as theatre artists in preparation for upcoming regional General Auditions as well as other audition-based arts employment opportunities within the region.
This Audition and Monologue workshop event is designed to celebrate and support artists of color in the San Francisco Bay Area region. Magic Theatre's Making Magic: A Masterclass aims to foster a sense of community, provide valuable resources, and encourage the flourishing of creativity within a diverse cultural context.
Participants choose which session they would like to sign up for. The sessions will be facilitated by Magic Theatre’s Artistic Director Sean San José, Magic Theatre’s Director of Education Ely Sonny Orquiza, Lorraine Hansberry Theatre’s Artistic Director Margo Hall, and Bay Area multidisciplinary artist Ixtlan. A combination of topics below may be covered, but are not limited to:
Valuable insights regarding general and production-specific auditions.
Information into boosting a professional resume.
Practical audition techniques.
Personalized feedback to enhance audition performance.
A mock audition.
Dialogue with industry professionals.
Making Magic: Masterclass Schedule:
Session A: 10:00AM to 1:00PM with Magic Theatre Director of Education and Community Ely Sonny Orquiza
Session B: 1:30PM to 4:30PM with Magic Theatre Artistic Director Sean San José
Session C: 1:30PM to 4:30PM with Multidisciplinary artist Ixtlan
Session D: 5:00PM to 8:00PM with Lorraine Hansberry Theatre Artistic Director Margo Hall
Session size: maximum 12 Artists.
Spectatorship size: open til slots are filled.
