About the artists:
Tory Canby is a self taught artist. She was born in New Mexico and raised in California. She first studied mural painting in El Salvador with a group called ASTAC. She has worked on murals throughout the Bay Area. She also works in a variety of materials to create drawings, paintings, sculptures, and altar constructions. Her main influences come from nature, Mayan, Aztec, and Navajo imagery, as well as mythology and my ancestors.
Theo Knox is from a small town that is big for Wyoming. He was raised in Pennsylvania in another small town, but has lived in New York, Washington D.C., and New Mexico. He currently has a bed, some clothes, four blue walls, and a lighter blue ceiling in Oakland. He considers himself lucky for this. He is driven by landscape and natural materials–clouds, tumbleweeds, my grandmothers, the bark peeling from a tree are all inspirations. He makes both two- and three-dimensional work.
